Crochet Pattern: Scarf
The scarf is crocheted using the basic Tunisian stitch. Check out this video for instructions.
Crochet with green yarn and a 5.5 mm Tunisian Crochet Hook.
Crochet a chain of 22 chain stitches.
Round 1: Now insert the Crochet Hook into the 2nd chain stitch from the Crochet Hook. To determine which chain stitch is the 2nd one, look at where your working yarn comes out. Skip the chain stitch where your working yarn comes out; the next one is the second chain stitch from the Crochet Hook. Insert the Crochet Hook, yarn over, and pull the yarn through the stitch. Leave the yarn over on your Crochet Hook. You now have 2 loops on your Crochet Hook. * Insert the hook into the next chain stitch, wrap the yarn around the hook, and pull the yarn through the stitch. Leave the yarn wrap on your Crochet Hook *. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row. You now have a total of 22 loops on your Crochet Hook.
2nd row: Chain 1 and pull the chain through 1 loop on your Crochet Hook. *Chain 1 and pull through 2 loops on the Crochet Hook*. Repeat *to*, until the end of the row, until you have 1 loop left on your Crochet Hook.
3rd row: If you look at your stitches now, you'll see that vertical lines have formed.
Skip the first vertical stripe. Insert your Crochet Hook through the front of the fabric on the right side, just below the second vertical stripe. Yarn over and pull the yarn over through the line so that a second loop forms on your Crochet Hook. Do this for all the vertical lines you see. The last one is right at the edge of your work. Pick this one up as well so that you have 22 loops on your Crochet Hook again.
To make your scarf larger, alternate between rows 2 and 3 when you crochet.
For the scarf, we'll crochet a total of 242 rows.
Row 243: Now slip the stitches off by pulling the picked-up loop straight through the loop on the Crochet Hook. In other words, you’re crocheting a slip stitch. Do not fasten off. Instead, chain 1, then work 1 row of single crochet along the long side, chain 1, and work 1 row of single crochet along the bottom edge as well. You don’t need to work the other long side, as it already has a nice edge on its own. Now continue with a 6.5 mm Crochet Hook and work 1 round of slip stitches all around the sides of the Scarf. Fasten off and neatly weave in all ends.
Now sew Santa's head and the reindeer onto both ends of the scarf. Make sure the ends of the beard and the snout stick out.
