This top is available in sizes S, M, and L and has a slim, cropped fit. Would you like to make the top longer? Then crochet 4 extra granny squares and attach them to the bottom. For the largest size, be sure to have an extra ball of white yarn on hand, just in case.

For the granny squares’ color gradient, alternate the different colors to your liking. Finish each granny square with 2 rounds of White.

Granny Square

Crochet a total of 12 full granny squares and 4 half granny squares.

Sizes S, M, and L
Round 1: Start with a magic loop and crochet 4 chain stitches into the loop; these count as the first treble crochet. Crochet a second treble crochet together, 1 chain stitch.*Crochet 2 double crochets together, 1 chain stitch*; repeat *-* 10 times and join with a slip stitch in the 4th chain stitch you started with. (You will have a total of 12 double crochets crocheted together.)
Row 2: Crochet a slip stitch into the chain space between the first and second joined double crochets from Row 1. 3 chain stitches (counts as 1 double crochet), work a second joined double crochet, 1 chain stitch. Crochet 2 double crochets together in the next chain stitch from Row 1, 1 chain stitch, 2 double crochets together, 1 chain stitch, and 2 more double crochets together in the next chain stitch, 1 chain stitch. 2 double crochets together in the next chain stitch, 1 chain stitch*. Repeat *-* 2 times. 2 double crochets worked together in the next chain space, 1 chain stitch, 2 double crochets worked together, 1 chain stitch, and 2 more double crochets worked together in the next chain space, 1 chain stitch. Join the round with a slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch from the first double crochet.
Round 3: Crochet with slip stitches into the chain space between the 2-2 joined double crochets from Round 2.*3 chain stitches (counts as 1 double crochet), crochet a second and third double crochet together (= 3 joined double crochets), 1 chain stitch.* Crochet 3 double crochets worked together into the next space between 2 double crochets worked together from the previous round, 1 chain stitch, crochet 3 double crochets worked together, 1 chain stitch, 3 double crochets worked together, 1 chain stitch into the next space, 1 chain stitch, 3 double crochets worked together * repeat 3 times *. Join with a single crochet stitch in the 3rd chain stitch of the first double crochet.
Row 4: Crochet with slip stitches to the chain stitch between two 3-double crochet clusters from Row 3. *Chain 3 (counts as a double crochet), crochet 2 more double crochets into the same stitch, crochet 3 double crochets into the next chain stitch. Crochet 3 treble crochets, 1 chain stitch, 3 treble crochets in the next space, 3 treble crochets in the next space, 3 treble crochets in the next space * repeat 3 times *
Row 5: Crochet a slip stitch into the space between the 3rd and 4th double crochets of the previous row, then change colors.*Chain 3 (counts as a double crochet), work 2 more double crochets into the same stitch, skip 3 double crochets, work 3 double crochets into this space, skip 3 double crochets, work 3 double crochets, 1 chain stitch, and 3 more double crochets into the same space (for a total of 6 double crochets with a chain stitch between the 3rd and 4th double crochets). In row 6, crochet 6 sets of 3 double crochets along the four sides and 3 double crochets, 1 chain stitch, 3 double crochets in the corners. Change colors.
Row 7: 7 x 3 double crochets along the sides and 3 double crochets, 1 chain stitch, 3 double crochets in the corners.

These are crocheted back and forth.

Round 3: 3 chain stitches (counts as 1 double crochet), crochet a second and third double crochet together (= 3 double crochets worked together), 1 chain stitch. Work 3 double crochets worked together into the next space between 2 double crochets worked together from the previous round, 1 chain stitch, *crochet 3 double crochets worked together into the next space, 1 chain stitch.* Crochet 3 double crochets together, 1 chain stitch. Row 4: 4 chain stitches, 2 treble crochets in the same stitch, *work 3 treble crochets in the next space*. Repeat *-* 3 times. Crochet Pattern for a Granny Square Summer Top

When crocheting the longer top, 4 additional squares are used.
Crochet the squares and triangles together diagonally using a flat slip stitch in the bottom loops of the last round.

Bottom edge of the top

Use the color White.
Round 1: Start at the bottom of the top, work 3 double crochets into each double crochet of the triangles (my triangle consists of 8 rounds, so a total of 16 x 3 double crochets). Between the triangles, work 3 double crochets into the chain stitch of the adjacent square.
Row 2: Repeat Row 1
3rd round:
1 chain stitch (counts as the 1st single crochet),* 1 chain stitch, skip 1 stitch, 1 single crochet, 1 chain stitch, skip 1 stitch, 1 single crochet, 1 chain stitch, skip 1 stitch, 1 single crochet, 2 chain stitches, slip stitch in the 2 loops of the single crochet (=picoot),* repeat * * to the end of the round, close with a slip stitch.

Shoulder straps

Use the color White.
Join in the corner of the top square, crochet *3 (counts as 1 double crochet), 3 double crochets, 1 chain stitch above the chain stitch of the corner square, 3 double crochets, and turn the work.*
Repeat this round 30 times, then crochet to the opposite square.
Finish off the neckline and armholes with slip stitches in the front loops of the single crochets on the last round of the square.
