Money, money, money… In the last month of the year, it’s not just peppernuts that are flying around—euros are too. During this festive month, we’re only too happy to treat ourselves and others to delicious food and gifts. So you’ll likely have your wallet handy a lot during this time. That’s why we at Yarnplaza thought it would be fun to give this accessory some extra attention and treat you to two Free Crochet Patterns for an adorable mini wallet.

These mini wallets are crocheted using Yarn and Colors Must-have, Must-have Mini, and Glamour. You’ll also need the Yarnplaza snap closure, which is available exclusively in the color rosé. Our favorite color! The small holes in the fastener make it easy to attach your crocheted piece to the fastener. One of the wallets is crocheted using the tapestry technique. If you choose to crochet the other wallet, you’ll use the knot stitch.

Have you decided which wallet you’re going to crochet yet? Of course, you don’t have to choose—these crocheted wallets are sure to be a hit as Sinterklaas or Christmas gifts. A thoughtful little gift, crocheted with love.

Free Crochet Pattern: Mini Tapestry Wallet

Tools & Supplies:

The little wallet is crocheted in the round; you don't close the rounds but continue crocheting in the spiral. In this pattern, you'll use Yarn and Colors Glamour as a double strand.

Tapestry: In this little wallet, we’ll use the tapestry technique to create a pattern. You’ll simply crochet single crochet stitches, but you’ll crochet them around a running thread. In this pattern, we’ll always bring 1 thread along. By bringing this thread along, you can create quick and beautiful color changes in your pattern.

Color change: When changing colors, work the single crochet before starting the new color, as follows: (1) Insert the hook with the color you’re currently crocheting with, then yarn over and pull the yarn through the stitch. (2) Make a yarn over with the new color and (3) pull it through the 2 loops. (4) Now simply continue crocheting with the new color. We’ll crochet through Round 10 using a single strand, so without a working thread.

Round 1: Start with 6 sc in a magic ring using size 18 hook
2nd row: double all stitches (12)
3rd round: *1 sc, 2 sc in next stitch* Repeat *-* (18)
4th row: 1 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, *2 sc, 2 sc in next stitch* Repeat from * to *. End with 1 sc. (24)
Row 5: *3 sc, 2 sc in next stitch* Repeat from * to * (30)
Row 6: 2 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, *4 sc, 2 sc in next stitch* Repeat from * to *. End with 2 sc. (36)
7th round: *5 sc, 2 sc in next stitch* Repeat *-* (42)
Row 8: 3 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, *6 sc, 2 sc in next stitch* Repeat from * to *. End with 3 sc. (48)
Row 9: *7 sc, 2 sc in next stitch* Repeat from * to * (54)
Row 10: 4 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, *8 sc, 2 sc in next stitch* Repeat from * to *. End with 4 sc. (60)

Starting with Round 11, we’ll use the color chart, and you’ll follow the chart through Round 24. Note: Always start at the beginning of the chart (at the round numbers) because you’re crocheting in the round. Starting with Round 11, use color 101 as your working yarn. At the end of row 14, cut color 18 (don’t cut it too short so you can still tuck it in), and at the beginning of row 15, add color 44 as the working yarn. At the end of row 19, cut color 101, and at the beginning of row 20, add color 101 Glamour as the working yarn. Follow the chart through row 24. At the end of row 24, cut color 44 and continue crocheting with color 101 Glamour without a working chain.

25th round: 60 sts.
26th round: 60 sts.
Row 27: 4 sc, crochet the next 2 stitches together, *8 sc, crochet the next 2 stitches together* Repeat from * to *. End with 4 sc. (54)

Fasten off with a long tail. Sew the pouch to the clasp. Use color 101 (glamour) and a needle that fits through the clasp’s holes. We have a total of 54 stitches, and the clasp has 2 x 23 holes = 46. That’s a difference of 8 stitches. Between the two clasps, leave 3 stitches on each side unworked. This leaves us with 2 stitches remaining, which we’ll use when sewing the pouch to the clips—1 on each side. Sew the pouch to the clips using a running stitch; 1 stitch equals 1 hole. In the middle of the clip, skip 1 stitch—this is the stitch we had left over. Securely fasten off your thread at the end.

Finally, make another mini flos using size 101 and attach it, along with the charm, to one of the two eyelets on the clasp.

The little wallet is crocheted in the round; do not join the rows, but continue crocheting in the round, unless otherwise specified.

Knot stitch: This pattern uses the knot stitch. To make it, alternate 1 single crochet and 1 treble crochet in the same row. Between these rows, work single crochets.
Round 1: Start with 6 sc in a magic ring using size 62 hook
2nd row: double all stitches (12)
3rd round: *1 sc, 2 sc in next stitch* Repeat *-* (18)
4th row: 1 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, *2 sc, 2 sc in next stitch* Repeat from * to *. End with 1 sc. (24)
Row 5: *3 sc, 2 sc in next stitch* Repeat from * to * (30)
Row 6: 2 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, *4 sc, 2 sc in next stitch* Repeat from * to *. End with 2 sc. (36)
Round 7: *5 sc, 2 sc in next stitch* Repeat from * to *. At the end of this round, change to the last sc of color (color 18) (42)
Row 8: 3 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, *6 sc, 2 sc in next stitch* Repeat from * to *. End with 3 sc. At the end of this row, change to the last sc of color (color 62) (48)
Row 9: *7 sc, 2 sc in next stitch* Repeat from * to * (54)

This was the last round you increased on. Now take your hoop and lay it fully open on the table; your crocheted circle should now fit exactly into the curve of the hoop. If it’s too small, crochet the circle again using a Crochet Hook half a size larger. If it’s too large, crochet it again using a Crochet Hook half a size smaller.

Rows 10–12: 54 sts. At the end of row 12, switch to the last st of color (color 18)
Row 13: From here on, alternate colors every row through row 21. *1 sc, 1 dtr.* Repeat from * to *
14th round: 54 sts.
Rows 15 through 21: Alternate between repeating rows 13 and 14. At the end of row 21, change colors one more time in the last dst. (stp. 62)
Rows 22 through 26: 54 sts.

Finish off with a long thread. Sew the pouch to the clasp. Use size 62 and a needle that fits through the clasp’s holes. We have a total of 54 stitches, and the clasp has 2 x 23 holes = 46. That’s a difference of 8 stitches. Between the two clips, leave 3 stitches unworked on each side. Then we still have
Skip 2 stitches; we’ll use those when we sew the pouch to the brackets—1 on each side. Sew the pouch to the brackets using a running stitch; 1 stitch corresponds to 1 hole. In the middle of the bracket, skip 1 stitch—this is the stitch we had left over. At the end, secure your thread tightly.

Finally, make another mini flos using size 62 beads and attach it, along with the charm, to one of the two eyelets on the clasp.
