At Yarnplaza, we love to surprise, inspire, amaze, and challenge you. We’re going to do all of that today with a brand-new video tutorial. In it, Amy from our UK sister site, Yarnplaza, will teach you all about the Interlocking Crochet technique. Are you ready to join us on a crochet adventure?
What Is Interlocking Crochet?
Interlocking crochet, or double crochet, is somewhat similar to mosaic crochet, but works just a little differently. By crocheting squares of chain stitches and double crochets and then weaving a contrasting color through them, you can create all kinds of patterns. The great thing about interlocking crochet is that your blanket, placemat, or potholder has no “wrong” side. A beautiful pattern emerges on both sides, with one color dominating the front and the other color standing out on the back.
How Does Interlocking Crochet Work?
We’ve already told you that Interlocking Crochet uses crocheted squares made up of double crochets and chain stitches. Basically, you crochet two separate filet projects using two contrasting colors—but at the same time. By crocheting double crochets through the squares from the front and back, the two filet patterns become interwoven. Setting up your Interlocking Crochet project—where the two colors are interwoven for the first time—is the trickiest part. But please don’t let that discourage you! Once you get started, it’s a joy to crochet, and this technique becomes downright addictive. It’s not a quick project—after all, you’re crocheting the pattern twice—but the result is absolutely worth all those hours of crocheting.
