Round 1: Using Soft Grey, make a magic ring of 6 sc, or do it this way: Crochet 2 chains. Crochet 6 sc in the first chain. Sl st in the first sc to form a loop (6).
Round 2: Crochet 2 single crochets in each single crochet (12).
Round 3: Crochet 2 sc in every 2nd stitch. Crochet 1 sc in all remaining stitches (18).
Round 4: Crochet 1 chain. *Crochet 2 chains into the next chain. Crochet 2*. Repeat from *to*, until the end of the round, but end with a chain 1 (24).
Round 5: Crochet 2 sc in every 4th stitch. Crochet 1 sc in all remaining stitches (30).
Round 6: Crochet 2. *Crochet 2 into the next chain. Crochet 4*. Repeat from *to*, until the end of the round, but end with 2 chains (36).
Round 7: Crochet 2 sc in every 6th stitch. Crochet 1 sc in all remaining stitches (42).
Round 8: Crochet 42 (42).
9th row: Crochet this row into the back loops of your single crochet stitches, so that a few loops form on the outside of your work. Crochet 1 chain into the first stitch. Crochet 3 stitches (this is the first single crochet). Now work 12 single crochets. Crochet 1 chain. Skip 1 stitch and work 28 more single crochets to the end of the row.
Finish up. Leave a long thread attached to your work for finishing.
If all goes well, the measuring tape should now fit perfectly inside. Everyone has their own crocheting style. If your crochet piece is too loose, crochet it again using a 2mm Crochet Hook. If your crochet piece is too tight, crochet it again using a 3mm Crochet Hook. It should fit snugly inside. Place the measuring tape with the button facing down inside your crochet piece and thread the end of the Ribbon through the opening where you skipped a stitch in row 9.
Front with a cat's face
Now crochet rows 1 through 8 of the pattern for the bottom of the measuring tape. This time, be sure to fasten off and weave in the ends neatly.
Snout
Round 1: Using White, make a magic ring of 6 sc, or do it this way: Crochet 2 chains.
Fasten off. Leave a long tail to sew the piece together.
Now embroider a little nose with Peach over rows 1 and 2, starting from the center. Sew the snout securely in place between rows 3 and 8 in the center using small stitches all around. Embroider two eyes with Black over row 4, above the snout. Now place the front of your work on top of the open side of the measuring tape. Using the end thread from the bottom of the measuring tape, sew the face all the way around. Make sure to always insert your needle from the same side for a neat closing seam. When sewing the face, stitch only into the back loop so that, just like on the bottom, a row with single loops remains visible.
Ears 2x: Using Soft Grey, chain 6. Now work back along the chain. Crochet 1 single crochet in the 2nd chain from the Crochet Hook. In the next chain, crochet 1 half double crochet and 1 single crochet. In the next chain, crochet 1 double crochet, 2 chains. Crochet 1 slip stitch in the first chain (this creates a point). Crochet another double treble stitch in the same stitch. Crochet 1 single treble stitch and 1 half-double treble stitch in the next chain, and finish with 1 single crochet in the last chain.
Finish off. Leave a long tail on your work so you can sew it in place. Crochet another ear just like this one.
Inside of Ears, 2x
1st Round: Use White to crochet 2 chains. Crochet 2 single crochets in the first chain (2).
Round 2: Chain 1, crochet 2 single crochets in the last single crochet (3). Fasten off. Crochet another inner ear the same way. Sew the inner ears securely in place at the center of the bottom of the ears using small stitches.
Using small stitches, single crochet the ears securely in the center of the stitch of row 9 of the bottom edge, as you see fit. Neatly weave in all the loose ends.
