Crocheting a Christmas Stocking

Ho, ho, ho, Christmas is just around the corner again! It won’t be long before Santa starts handing out presents. Have you decorated your home to get into the Christmas spirit yet? With these two cool Christmas stockings, you’ll kill two birds with one stone. They’ll instantly bring some festive cheer into your home, and maybe Santa will even leave a present inside one of them... Read on to find out how to crochet your very own stylish Christmas stocking!

There are two different patterns. The pink-and-red sock is made up of hexagonal granny squares. This pattern is for slightly more advanced Haaksters. The silver sock with a bow and large stars is a bit easier and therefore also suitable for beginners.

Crocheting a Christmas Stocking with Sequins

Both socks are made with Phildar Paillettes. This chic yarn with sequins instantly creates a Christmas atmosphere. We also used Phildar Partner 3.5 in pink and red, but of course you can choose any color. Green and red, blue and green, pink and khaki... The possibilities are endless!

Please note: Phildar yarns are no longer available in our selection. The materials section lists the yarns we recommend as substitutes.

Stitches used:
l. = chain stitch
h.v. = slip stitch

hstk. = half double crochet

Leg: Attach a strand of yarn to the center-back of your heel and continue crocheting in the round.

Rows 23–26: 52 sts. Bind off.
Make another hanging loop in the center back with 18 chain stitches.

Stars: Start by making 10 squares. You'll eventually turn these into 1 star.

For the large star, start with 2 l. using a size 2 Crochet Hook
Make a loop on every round.
On every round, double the last stitch.
Keep going until you have a total of 11.
Starting at 11, you start decreasing again.
Skip the first stitch on every round.
End with 1 st.

For the small star, you also start with 2 ch. and increase until you have 9 st., then you decrease.

Now join 5 squares together to form a star. Place the 2 stars on top of each other and crochet them together with a single crochet border using colored yarn, so the star has a colored border. Stuff it.

Finally, crochet a small cord for the stars and thread it through the sock. Chain 151 and work one round back with single crochet.

Joining the Pieces
Sew the granny squares together with a needle and thread. Place right sides together and pick up the inner loops as you go. Arrange the granny squares as shown in Figures 1 and 2, and sew them together.

Now join the leg and the foot together, as shown by the red line in Figures 1 and 2. Next, fold the sock as shown in Figure 3, right sides together. This way, you can see exactly which granny squares to join together. Finally, close up the toe. Crochet another hanging loop at the top of the sock using 18 ch.
