Crochet a Cheerful Children's Poncho

Crocheting a Kids' Poncho - A cozy poncho for a cool girl! The poncho can be worn over a jacket or a shirt—perfect for the colder days ahead. This way, your kids will head into winter not only warm but also full of color!

This cheerful poncho is crocheted using Lana Grossa Bingo. Bingo is a soft yarn made from 100% merino wool and is available in a wide variety of colors. We’ve combined the regular and neon colors of this yarn to create a fresh, fun look. Of course, you can choose your own favorite colors and make the most beautiful poncho for your little girl!

Crochet Pattern for a Children's Poncho

What do you need?
Lana Grossa Bingo

Materials:
- 4 balls of Lana Grossa Bingo, color 90
- 1 ball of Lana Grossa Bingo, color 159
- 1 ball of Lana Grossa Bingo Neon in colors 701 and 709
- 1 ball of Katia Merino Baby, color 60
- Crochet Hooks sizes 7 and 6

Stitches used:
l. = chain stitch
hv. = single crochet
v. = single crochet
hstk. = half double crochet
pc. = double crochet

The poncho is for a child aged 5, 6, or 7, or size 116.

Dimensions: sleeve length 36 cm, height to the neckline 50 cm. The neckline itself has a circumference of 40 cm and a diameter of approximately 13 cm.

Would you like to make a different size? You can do this by making the neckline narrower or wider. The chain of chain stitches must be divisible by 8.

Crochet Pattern for a Children's Poncho:

Chain 56 sts (90 sts) using a size 7 Crochet Hook, and join to form a ring with a slip stitch.

The rest of the poncho is crocheted with a size 6 Crochet Hook.
Round 1: 3 ch. (1st tr.), 2 tr., 1 ch., skip 1 tr. *3 tr., 1 ch., skip 1 tr.* Repeat from * to *. Fasten off with a sl st. (14 groups of 3 tr.)

Round 2: Chain 3 to the first 1-ch space, and crochet 3 dc, 1 ch, 3 dc, 1 ch into this space (center back/front). In the next 6 1-ch spaces, crochet 3 dc, 1 ch. Next space: 3 dc, 1 ch, 3 dc, 1 ch. (center back/front). In the last 6 1-ch. spaces, work 3 tr., 1 ch. Fasten off with a sl st.

Rows 3 through 18: Repeat Row 2. In the center back/front opening, work 3 sts, 1 ch, 3 sts, 1 ch. In the remaining openings, work 1 ch, 3 sts, 1 ch. Close with a sl st and fasten off. Change colors (color 709)

Round 19: Start in a center back/front opening and crochet 3 hdc, 1 ch, 3 hdc into this opening. *Crochet 1 hdc in each st.* In the center back/front opening, work 3 hdc, 1 ch, 3 hdc. Repeat from * to *. Close with a sl st and fasten off. Change colors (color 159)

Row 20: In the center back/front opening, work 3 stitches together, 1 ch., 3 stitches together. *3 ch., slip 2 sts., work 3 stitches together in the next st.* Repeat *-* In the center back/front opening, work 3 stitches together, 1 ch., 3 stitches together. Repeat *-* Close with a sl st. and fasten off. Change colors (color 701)

Row 21: Join a new strand of yarn in the center and crochet 3 chains (1 dc), 3 chains, 1 dc. * Chain 3, 1 dc in the 3-chain space. * In the center, 1 dc, 3 ch, 1 dc. Repeat from * to *. End with 3 ch. Join with a sl st and fasten off. Change colors (color 90)

Row 22: Repeat Row 2. Join a new strand of yarn in the center. Of course, there are more than 6 openings in this row, as indicated in Row 2. Change colors (color 159)

Row 23: Join a strand of yarn in the center and crochet 3 hstk., 1 ch., 3 hstk. *Crochet 1 hstk. in each st.* In the center, crochet 3 hstk., 1 ch., 3 hstk. Repeat from * to *. Fasten off with a sl st. and cut the yarn. Change colors (color 709)

Row 24: Crochet a sl st in the front loop of each st; in the center back/front opening, crochet 3 dc. Close with a sl st and fasten off. Change colors (color 701)

Row 25: Attach a strand of yarn in the center and crochet 3 dc, 1 ch, 3 dc in the back loop of row 24.

Next, * 1 sc in each st.* In the center: 3 sc, 1 ch, 3 sc. Repeat from * to *. Close with a sl st and fasten off. Change colors (color 90)

Round 26: Attach a strand of yarn to a center back/front opening. Crochet 3 dc, 1 ch, 3 dc, *skip 3 sts, 1 dc in the next st, 3 ch, 1 dc* Repeat *-* In the center: 3 dc, 1 ch, 3 dc. Repeat *-* Close with a sl st and fasten off. Change colors (color 709)

Row 27: Join a yarn in the center and crochet 2 dc, 1 ch, 2 dc, 1 dc (slip stitch), 1 dc in the next 3 dc, *2 dc in the 3-ch space, 1 dc* Repeat *-* to the center; work 1 dc in the last 2 dc. In the center, work 2 dc, 1 ch, 2 dc, 1 dc in the next 3 dc. Repeat *-*. End with 2 dc, join with a sl st, and fasten off. Change colors (color 90)

Row 28: Join a yarn to the first section of a center, crochet 2 chains ( = 1 sc), chain 4, skip 3 sts, 1 sc, *chain 4, skip 3 sts, 1 sc.* Repeat *-* After the last single crochet before the center, chain 3, single crochet in the first stitch of the center, chain 4, skip 3 double crochets, single crochet, chain 3, skip 2 double crochets, single crochet. Repeat *-* End with a chain of 4 and join with a slip stitch; fasten off.

Finishing Touches for a Children's Poncho Crochet Pattern

Finishing the poncho:
Crochet a border along the neckline using slip stitches in color 709

Make a cord 100 l. long (size 90) and thread it through the first row; attach two pom-poms in color 159 to the end of the cord.

Tassels:
Cut 3.50 m of 32-strand Merino baby yarn. Wrap the strands around an 8 cm piece of cardboard, cut the strands, and attach a tassel to the poncho. Skip one arch each time.
