Crocheted Rose-Patterned Tablecloth
No matter where you put it, this rose-patterned rug is a real eye-catcher. The playful effect of the filet crochet and the rug’s shape make it a unique addition to your home. As Saskia shows, use a sturdy double-strand yarn for a large rug, or make a smaller one with a thinner yarn. The choice is yours!

Materials used:
- 12 balls of Lana Grossa Cotton Mix 80 (color 521)
- Clover Amour Crochet Hook Size 10

Tips & Tricks: Crocheting a Filet Stitch
When crocheting filet, you work each square as follows: the first open square consists of one double crochet and 2 chain stitches; the first closed square consists of 4 double crochets. The square next to it decreases one double crochet, because it shares the one from its neighbors.

In this pattern, you increase or decrease on every row, at the beginning and at the end. Here's how to do it:

  • Increasing at the beginning of your row: crochet the required number of chain stitches, and then crochet double crochets into them.
  • Increase at the end of the round: work double crochets to reach the required number of stitches.
  • Start off slow: “walk” with slip stitches to the starting point
  • Decrease at the end of the row: that's what you always do—stop and turn your work around.
  • Can you start at the same height as your previous row? If so, chain 2 to turn and to reach the correct height, and work a double crochet in the first stitch. In this pattern, do not replace the first double crochet of your row with chain stitches.

Coffee & Wool Knitted Scarf

Every week, Saskia crochets a new round on the Coffee and Wool stitch scarf. To add some calm to the colorful scarf, she works two simpler rounds every other week. So this week, she’s crocheting two simple rounds using double crochets and chain stitches.
You can find the colors Saskia chose for the scarf in our blog post about Episode 2. Rows 7 and 8 are worked with colors 431 and 2010 from Lana Grossa Merino Superfein. Would you rather use different shades? No problem—let your creativity run wild!

A new episode of "Koffie & Wool" is posted online every Friday. The next episode will be on April 17, 2015.
