And we're already at Episode 6! Things are going so well—and so fast. We're already halfway through the season, but there's still plenty of great stuff in store for us! This sixth episode is largely dedicated to “Crochet & Color Buiten.” Saskia talks about her projects from the book, makes a bracelet, and Petra knits a baby blanket. It’s packed with beautiful things again, so be sure to check it out!
In this blog, you'll find everything about Episode 6, including:
- A crochet pattern for a bracelet
- The Knitting Pattern for the Merino Aran baby blanket
- Rows 9 and 10 of the Coffee and Wool Stitch Scarf
Crocheted Catania Spring Dress
Saskia is crocheting this cheerful spring tablecloth in pastel shades. This handy table runner is a variation on the brightly colored picnic blanket from the book *Haken & Kleur Buiten*. Unfortunately, we can’t share the entire pattern, but Saskia added—what else?—a border to this tablecloth! The rows for the border are listed below.
Material for the spring dress:
- 1 ball of SMC Catania: colors 105, 385, 386, 263, 205, 253, 179, 226, 173, 246, 280, 222, 172, and 392
- Clover Amour Crochet Hook Size 3.5
Crochet the flower blocks and join them together as described in the book. The border is just a little different:
Row 1 of the border:
Crochet in off-white.
Join at a corner and crochet a chain stitch and a single crochet into it, then 3 chain stitches, a single crochet, 3 chain stitches, a single crochet, 3 chain stitches, and a single crochet.
On the straight sides, continue crocheting as follows: 3 chain stitches, a single crochet between the group of 3 double crochets.
Row 2 of the border:
Insert the hook into the loops at the corners and into the loops of the flower squares: single crochet, 3 half double crochets, single crochet.
In the arches between the flower squares, crochet as follows: single crochet, 5 half double crochets, single crochet.
Crocheted cotton bracelet
Yes, so we don’t go entirely without a Crochet Pattern this week, we’re getting this pattern from the book as a gift! Saskia crochets this Cotton bracelet using SMC Catania yarn, but it can actually be made with any other yarn. If you choose a thinner yarn, you can use it as a cute decorative border, like on the little jars. With a thicker yarn, you’ll get a wider strap that you might even be able to use as a bag handle or a strap for your camera!
Material:
- Cotton, suitable for a size 3.5 Crochet Hook (e.g., Catania or Phil Coton 4)
- Clover Amour Crochet Hook Size 3.5
Tip: This pattern is crocheted in the round. To make it clear where a round begins, the starting chain stitch is always colored red.
Crochet bracelet pattern:
Row 1: * Chain 6, 1 double crochet in the third stitch from the hook. Repeat from * 4 times.
Row 2: Using the same color, chain 6. Crochet into the first double crochet: *3 double crochets worked together, 3 chain stitches, 3 double crochets worked together, 3 chain stitches, 3 double crochets worked together. Repeat from * 4 times. Finally, chain 3 and slip stitch into the first chain stitch.
Continue on the other side of the chain with 3 chain stitches; repeat from * 5 times. Finally, chain 3, then make 1 slip stitch in the 4th chain stitch of row 2. Fasten off.
Row 3: Join a new color where you just finished. Crochet 1 chain stitch, then *4 single crochets around the chain stitches; repeat from * 11 times. Chain 10 to make a strap to button the bracelet; work 1 single crochet in the 2nd chain stitch from the hook, then work 8 more single crochets. Work 4 single crochets around the next chain stitch. Repeat from * 11 times. Crochet 10 chain stitches to make a second strap. Single crochet in the 2nd chain stitch from the hook, then 8 single crochets. Finish with a slip stitch in the first chain stitch of Round 3. Fasten off and weave in the ends. Good luck!
Knitted Merino Aran Baby Blanket
Petra is knitting a wonderfully soft baby blanket. Katia Merino Aran is perfect for this project because it’s strong and soft to the touch. As Petra explains in the episode, the increases and decreases automatically create a cute edging with little holes, through which you can thread a colorful cord!
Material:
- 4 balls of Katia Merino Aran (color 12)
- 3 balls of Rico Essentials Big (colors 25, 28, 30)
- Lana Grossa Aluminum Knitting Needles, 5 mm

Coffee & Wool Knitted Scarf
Every week, Saskia crochets a new section of the Coffee and Wool stitch scarf. This week, she’s already on the 9th and 10th rounds! After last week’s simpler rounds, Saskia is continuing with her little flower garden and adding little roses to the scarf.
Row 9: Join with Green. Work 2 chain stitches and a double crochet in the first stitch. Skip 1 stitch, *2 joined double crochets (the almost-finished double crochets), 3 chain stitches, 2 joined double crochets. Skip 3 stitches, repeat from * 13 times. Skip 3 stitches, double crochet in the last 2 stitches.
A new episode of "Koffie & Wool" is posted online every Friday. The next episode will be on April 24, 2015.
