Crochet this cheerful cushion using Phildar Carnaval. This braided, multicolored yarn from Phildar creates a colorful effect. The combination of Cotton and Acrylic makes the yarn light and airy, perfect for a variety of projects. In addition to a cushion, you could, for example, make a cute children’s cardigan or a soft summer sweater. It’s also fun to try one of the other colored balls!
What do you need?

Materials:
- 12 balls of Phildar Carnaval (we used color 105)
- Crochet Hook No. 4
- Inner pillow 50 x 50 cm (available at Hema, among other places)
Crochet cushion pattern:
Crochet 6 chain stitches and join with a slip stitch.
Row 1: Chain 3 for the first double crochet. Then work 11 double crochets into the ring. Fasten off with a slip stitch.
Row 2: Chain 3. Work 1 double crochet between the two double crochets from the previous row. Chain 1. Work 2 double crochets between the next two double crochets from the previous row. Chain 1. Repeat until the row is complete. Fasten off with a slip stitch.
Row 3: Chain 3. Work 2 double crochets between the clusters from the previous row. Chain 1. Then work 3 double crochets between the clusters from the previous row. Repeat until you’ve gone all the way around. Join with a slip stitch.
Row 4: Chain 3, slip stitch between the clusters from the previous row. Chain 3, slip stitch between the clusters again. Repeat until the row is complete. Join with a slip stitch.
Row 5: (slip stitch to the spot where the first double crochet should go) 3 chain stitches. Work 2 double crochets, 2 chain stitches, and 3 double crochets in the arch. Work 3 double crochets in the next arch. Work 3 double crochets, 2 chain stitches, and 3 double crochets in the next arch. Work 3 double crochets in the next arch. Repeat this pattern alternately until the round is complete. Close with a slip stitch.
Row 6: (slip stitch to the spot where the first double crochet should go) 3 chain stitches. Two double crochets, 2 chain stitches, and 3 double crochets in the arch of the “corner.” Work 3 double crochets between each of the other groups. Join with a slip stitch. Repeat Row 6 and fasten off.
Make 24 hexagons! Crochet all the hexagons together. Place them right sides together and crochet them together using single crochets. Always start at a corner. Crochet only into the outer loops, so that a line like this is visible on the right side. Fold a hexagon in half to form a corner. Then crochet one side closed.
TIP: Crochet the hexagons together as far as possible. Sew the last section closed by hand.

Alternative Crochet Cotton
Would you rather choose a different yarn? In addition to the colorful balls of Phildar Carnaval, there are, of course, plenty of alternatives. For example, choose one of the solid colors from Phil Coton 4 or Lana Grossa Cotton Mix 130. Both yarns come in a wide range of colors, so pick your color and crochet the Cushion exactly to your taste.
For an extra soft feel, you can choose Creative Cotton Aran Print or DROPS Merino Extra Fine yarns. That’ll make the Cushion perfect for cuddling, won’t it?
