Mandala are all the rage! You can create these circles in all sorts of ways: painting, drawing, and even crocheting! Of course, we’re going with the crocheted version! This cheerful mandala has a playful twist: a graceful, open-work crocheted star in the center. Read on for the Free Crochet Pattern and crochet the mandala star in your favorite color.
Mandala Star - You can find a nice spot for this mandala star just about anywhere—against the wall, in front of the window, or maybe even outside under the porch! The 6-pointed star is a beautiful little work of art to look at and fun to crochet because it uses a variety of stitches. All you need is a metal ring and a ball of Cotton crochet yarn. We used the lovely Yarn and Colors Must-have crochet yarn. Choose your favorite color from a selection of no fewer than 100 colors! For this mandala, we used a metal ring with a diameter of 20 cm. Want to crochet a larger mandala? You can! We have metal rings with diameters up to 50 cm in our selection.

Free Crochet Pattern: Mandala Star
In this pattern, the turning chains are not counted as stitches; they are only used to create height for the New round.
Use a 3.5 mm crochet hook and start with a magic ring
Row 1: 1 chain stitch, 6 single crochets in the ring. Close the row with a slip stitch in the first stitch.
Row 2: 1 chain stitch to start, 1 single crochet, *5 chain stitches, 1 single crochet in the next stitch. Repeat from *. Join the row with a slip stitch in the first stitch.
Row 3: Work 3 half double crochets to the center of the next arch. 1 starting chain, *2 joined double crochets, 7 chain stitches, 1 slip stitch in the 5th chain from your hook, 2
chain stitches, 2 double crochets worked together, 5 chain stitches, to the next arch. Repeat from *. Fasten off with a slip stitch in the first stitch.
Row 4: Chain 4 to the center of the next 5 chain stitches. 1 starting chain, *3 joined double crochets, 3 chain stitches, 3 joined double crochets, 5 chain stitches, 1 slip stitch in the 5th chain stitch from your hook, 3 slip stitches, 3 joined double crochets, 3 chains, 1 single crochet in the 5-chain arch from the previous round, 3 chains, to the next 5-chain loop. Repeat from *. Close the round with a slip stitch in the first stitch.
Row 5: Chain 3 to the center of the 5-chain arch from the previous round. 1 starting chain, *4 joined double crochets, 5 chain stitches, 5 joined double crochets, 5 chain stitches, 1 single crochet in the 3-chain arch, 3 chain stitches, 1 single crochet in the next 3-chain arch, 5 chain stitches. Finishing the mandala star:
Attach your star to the ring: use single crochets to attach the points of the 5 chain stitches to the ring. Work 30 single crochets between them. Close the round with a slip stitch in the first stitch. You now have 186 stitches.
