Crochet a fleece shawl

You can easily drape this unique scarf around yourself, and the convenient armhole keeps it securely in place. This generously sized scarf is made from the warm Lana Grossa Garzato Fleece yarn. This yarn, composed of 70% Alpaca and 30% Polyamide, has a slightly fluffy texture that gives it a fleece-like appearance. The beautiful crossed double crochet stitch really lets the yarn shine.

Tools & Supplies:
- 8 x Garzato Fleece size 24. Garzato Fleece is no longer available. Use a substitute yarn such as DROPS Air or Pink Label Felt-it.
- 8 and 9 mm Crochet Hooks

Stitches used:
l. = chain stitch
v. = single crochet
pc. = double crochet
rstkv. = relief single crochet for the front: make a yarn over, insert the hook from the front around the stitch in the row below, and finish the stitch as a regular single crochet.
In the video at the bottom of this blog, Monique demonstrates how the stitch is done.

Stitch count for cross-stitch, 10 x 10 cm: 12 stitches x 11 rows

Crochet Fleece Shawl Details

Crochet Pattern for a shawl:

Start with a chain of chain stitches using a size 9 Crochet Hook. The number of stitches must be divisible by 3 + 2, plus 1 for the starting chain.

We'll start this shawl with a chain of 102 + 2 + 1 (105 ch.)

After the chain, we'll continue with a size 8 Crochet Hook.
Rows 1 through 4: 104 sc.
Round 5: From here on, we’ll continue crocheting with size 9 Crochet Hook. 3 ch. (first dc), *skip 2 stitches and crochet 1 dc, 1 ch., then crochet 1 dc in the first of the 2 stitches you skipped earlier.* Repeat *-* to the end, then work 1 single crochet in the last stitch.
Row 6: 1 ch. (turn), 1 sc in each stitch and in each ch. space (104 sc)
Round 7: 3 ch. (first dc) *skip 2 stitches and crochet 1 dc, 1 ch., 1 sl st around the dc below the first of the 2 stitches you skipped earlier.* Repeat *-* to the end, 1 dc in the last stitch.
Rows 8 through 64: Repeat rows 6 and 7 alternately.
Row 65: From here on, we’ll continue crocheting in two sections. 2 x 52 stitches. Crochet crossed double crochets over 52 stitches, just as in row 7. Finish with 1 double crochet in the same stitch where you crocheted the last regular double crochet. (53 stitches)
66th round: 53 sts.
Rows 67 through 139: Repeat rows 6 and 7 alternately (start with row 7)
Rows 140–143: 53 single crochets using a size 8 Crochet Hook. Fasten off.

The 2e For the 53-stitch section, start next to the stitch where you finished row 65; attach a thread here.
Chain 3, skip 1 stitch instead of 2 (we only do this once), 1 single crochet, 1 chain, 1 slip stitch, then continue crocheting to the end as in the previous rounds. End with 1 single crochet. The next round is another round of v.
Continue crocheting in this alternating pattern until you have 55 rows.

Row 56: In this row, we’ll crochet an armhole. Crochet 20 sc, 21 ch, skip 21 stitches, 12 sc.
Row 57: 3 ch., 4 crossed dc with a sl st to the ch. chain. Skip 2 ch., 1 dc, 1 ch., crochet 1 dc in the first of the 2 stitches you skipped earlier. Continue crocheting 7 crossed dc in this manner, ending with 6 crossed dc with a sl st, 1 dc.
Rows 58 through 75: Crochet rows 6 and 7 alternately.
Rows 76 through 79: 53 single crochet with a size 8 Crochet Hook

Using a size 8 Crochet Hook, work a border of single crochet stitches (about 160) along the neckline and front panels.

First, stretch out the shawl (105 x 142, see diagram), moisten it with the plant sprayer, and let it dry overnight.

Finally, work 4 more rounds of single crochet along both sides (this is about 112 single crochets per side) using a size 8 Crochet Hook.
