This cheerfully colored St. Nicholas helper hat will transform your little one into an adorable little helper! This size is perfect for toddlers and preschoolers. The hat is crocheted in three colors; we went with bright colors that work for both girls and boys. Choose the colors you like best and/or that suit your little one best! 
Free Crochet Pattern for a Santa Helmet
Materials
used: Yarn and Colors, Fabulous: 2 balls (main color) Green Ice (75), 1 ball Pistachio (84), and 1 ball Lilac (55)
Red feathers (available at a craft store)
6 mm Crochet Hook
Stitches and Abbreviations Used
l. = chain
stitch = single
crochet = slip stitch
hst = half double crochet
The hat is crocheted in the spiral method. Do not fasten off at the end of each round; continue crocheting right away. Use Stitch Markers or a Row Counter to keep track of where you left off. If the hat is too loose for your toddler, you can thread an elastic cord through the single loops of round 17.
Start crocheting at the top of the hat. Your work will start to ripple as you crochet, but that's the point—it will create a nice pleated hat.
Round 1: Make a magic ring with 6 hst, or do it this way: Crochet 2 chains. Crochet 6 hst into the first chain (6).
Round 2: Crochet 2 hdc in each hdc (12).
Round 3: Crochet 2 hdc in each hdc (24).
Round 4: Crochet 2 hdc in each hdc (48).
Round 5: Crochet 48 hst (48).
Round 6: Crochet 2 hst in every 2the hst (72).
Round 7: Crochet 72 hst (72).
Round 8: Crochet 2 hst in each of the 3the hst (96).
Round 9: Crochet 2 hst in each of the 4the hst (120).

Round 10: Change to Lilac. Crochet 120 sts (120).
Round 11: Crochet 120v (120).
Round 12: Change the color to Green Ice. Crochet 120 hst (120).
Round 13: Change the color to Pistachio. Make 60 decreases by crocheting the hst 2 at a time together. At the end of this round, you will have 60 hst (60).
Round 14: Crochet 60 hst (60).
Round 15: Make 15 decreases. Crochet every 3the and 4the hst together (45).
Round 16: Crochet 45 hst (45).
Round 17: Crochet this round into the front loops of your stitches, so that a few loops form on the inside of your work. Crochet 2 hdc in each of the 3the hst (60).
Round 18: Crochet 60 hst (60).
Round 19: Crochet 2 hst in each hst (120).
Round 20: Change the color to Green Ice. Crochet 120 (120).
Round 21: Change to Lilac and crochet 120 ch-st (120). Fasten off. Neatly weave in all ends.
Using a pistachio-colored thread, single crochet row 15 in various places along the edge of the hat so that it keeps its shape. Finish the Santa hat by stitching (red) feathers through the side of the hat.
