Sheep Mobile - Free Crochet Pattern

Every baby can count sheep to their heart’s content and play with this adorable sheep mobile. The sheep are crocheted in cheerful colors, and their fleece is made of nice, soft teddy yarn. You attach the sheep to the wooden mobile. Annemarie explains how to crochet this sheep mobile for your little one. It also makes a great baby shower gift!

Sheep Mobile - Our Haakster, Annemarie Arts, crocheted these cheerful and soft little sheep to hang from the wooden mobile. The mobile is available with 4 or 6 arms. Every little one can entertain themselves for hours with these adorable little sheep, but of course you can also attach other crocheted or knitted creations to the mobile. The wooden mobile is easy to assemble and meets European safety standards.
Tips: Attach the wooden mobile hanger to a (wooden) mobile holder. For extra fun, add a Music Box to the wooden mobile.

The sheep’s fleece is crocheted with Rico Baby Teddy Aran. This is a lovely, fluffy yarn that feels super soft. The fleece is white, and the body is crocheted with 4 different colors of Yarn and Colors Must-have. Together, they make for a cheerful ensemble! Want to crochet the sheep mobile in different colors? No problem! The Yarn and Colors Must-have color palette consists of no fewer than 100 colors. For example, go for various shades of pink to create a sweet girl’s room. And replace the white fleece with the soft pink color “Baby Pink” from Teddy Aran. Choose the colors that perfectly match the kids’ room or living room.

Free Crochet Pattern for a Sheep Mobile

In this video, Annemarie shows you how to crochet these cute little sheep.

Head and Body

The sheep are crocheted using the Amigurumi technique. Make sure to crochet tightly enough so that you can’t see any stuffing between the stitches. If necessary, adjust the Crochet Hook size based on how you crochet.

Row 1: Using the Must-have, make a magic ring of 6 sc, or do it this way: Crochet 2 chains. Crochet 6 sc in the first ch. Sl st in the first sc to form a loop (6).
Row 2: Starting with this row, crochet into the back loops of your single crochets so that a few loops form on the outside of your work. Crochet 2 single crochets in each single crochet (12).
Row 3: Continue crocheting in the back loops. Crochet 2 single crochets in every 2nd single crochet (18).
Row 4: Continue crocheting in the back loops. Crochet 1 sc. *Crochet 2 sc in the next sc, crochet 2 sc*. Repeat from *to*, until the end of the row, but end with 1 sc (24).
Row 5: Continue crocheting in the back loops. Crochet 24 single crochets (24).
Row 6: Continue crocheting in the back loops. Crochet 2 single crochets in every 4th single crochet (30).
Rows 7–11: Stitch in single crochet again. Work 30 single stitches in each row (30).
Row 12: Make 6 decreases. Crochet every 4th and 5th st together (24). Before continuing, place the safety eyes between rows 8 and 9, with 2 holes between them.

Row 13:
Crochet 24 single crochets (24).
Row 14: Make 6 decreases. Crochet every 3rd and 4th st together (18).
Row 15: Make 6 decreases. Crochet every 2nd and 3rd st together (12).
Row 16: Crochet 12 single crochets (12).
Row 17: Starting here, crochet into the back loops again. Crochet 2 sc in every 2nd sc (18).
Row 18: Continue crocheting in the back loops. Crochet 1 sc. *Crochet 2 sc in the next sc, crochet 2 sc*. Repeat from *to*, until the end of the row, but end with 1 sc (24).
Rows 19–22: Continue to crochet in the back loops. Crochet 24 single crochets in each row (24).
Row 23: Continue crocheting in the back loops. Crochet 2 sc in every 4th sc (30).
Rows 24 and 25: Continue crocheting in the back loops. Crochet 30 single stitches in each row (30).
Row 26: Make 6 decreases. Crochet every 4th and 5th single crochet together (24). Before continuing, stuff the head firmly with Stuffing.

Row 27: Continue crocheting in the back loops. Make 6 decreases. Crochet every 3rd and 4th st together (18). Before continuing, stuff the bodice firmly with Stuffing.
Row 28: Continue crocheting in the back loops. Make 6 decreases. Crochet every 2nd and 3rd sts together (12).
Row 29: Continue crocheting in the back loops. Make 6 decreases. Crochet the stitches 2 at a time (6). Fasten off. Pull the end thread through the last 6 sc to close the final hole completely. Now, from the top of the head, attach a new Teddy yarn to the back loops of Row 1 and crochet 1 sc in each st. Continue crocheting until you reach the last loop of Row 6.

Now also attach a new teddy yarn from the top into the outer loops of row 17, and crochet from here to the last loop of row 29, working 1 single crochet in each loop. Fasten off. Neatly weave in all ends.

Nose
:
Between rows 10 and 11, embroider a small nose 3 times across using Graphite. Embroider a single line down from the center of the nose. Add a touch of blush to the cheeks.

Legs (4x)
Row 1:
Using Must-have, make a magic ring of 6 sc, or do it this way: Crochet 2 chains. Crochet 6 sc in the first ch. Crochet 1 sl st in the first sc to form a loop (6).
Row 2: Crochet 2 single crochets in each single crochet (12).
Rows 3–5: Crochet 12 single crochets in each row (12).
Row 6: Stuff the leg with a little stuffing. If necessary, use the back of your Crochet Hook to push the stuffing in.
Now make 3 decreases. Crochet every 3rd and 4th st together (9).
Row 7: Crochet 9 single crochets (9). Fasten off. Leave a long tail on your work so you can sew on the legs. Crochet a total of 4 legs. Pin the legs to the body first to see if they look the way you want before sewing them on.

Ears (2)
You can crochet the ears using Must-have yarn or Teddy yarn.
I crocheted them with the teddy yarn.

Crochet a chain of 6 stitches.
You will now crochet around the chain. Crochet 1 sc 3 times in the first 3 ch of your chain. Crochet 1 half double crochet in the 4th chain. Now crochet 5 half double crochets in the last chain of your chain. Continue crocheting on the other side of your chain. Crochet 1 half double crochet. Crochet 1 single crochet in the last 3 chains. Fasten off. Neatly weave in the starting end. Crochet another ear the same way. Sew the ears to the fluffy part of the head using the end thread, single crocheting them on either side of the head.

Crochet the tail
using Must-have 2l. Now crochet into the first chain: 1 sc, 5 hdc, 1 sc. Fasten off. Neatly weave in the starting thread. Using the ending thread, secure the tail in the center of the back of the sheep with small stitches. Attachment and a small piece to hide the button (4x).

Cut 4 strands of polyester yarn, each 40 cm long. Fold your yarn in half. Insert your Crochet Hook under the bottom row at the neck of the sheep and pull the fold in your yarn up slightly beneath the row. Thread the ends of your yarn through the loop you’ve created and pull tight. Thread the 12-mm bead onto the double strand of yarn and slide it up against the sheep.
First, tie off all the sheep, then check to see if they’re all the same length. Tie a small button in both threads at the top and attach them to the ends of the mobile’s arms. Make sure the sheep are hanging at the same height so that the mobile is balanced.

You will now crochet a small piece to hide the button where the threads meet at the top of the mobile. You will crochet back and forth. After each row, chain 1 and turn your work. This chain stitch does not count as a stitch.

Crochet with Must-have Limestone 4l.
Rows 1 through 10: Crochet 3 single crochets in each row (3).
Finish up.

Fold your fabric piece around the button on the mobile’s arm and sew the first and third stitches from the 1st and 10th rows together on either side of the strings. Also sew the sides closed so that it’s securely fastened. Neatly weave in the ends. Repeat this for the other buttons.

Have fun crocheting! We'd love to see your version of the sheep mobile! Share your creation on our Facebook page or on Instagram using #Yarnplaza.
