We know there’s plenty more crocheting talent out there in the Netherlands and Belgium, and we’re really eager to see your crocheting skills and creativity. Last year, you got to see how the 10 former contestants did. We’re organizing this challenging and spectacular crochet competition once again! Challenge yourself to take part in the crochet competition that the whole of the Netherlands is watching, and show us what you can do! Good news: registration for the New season opens today! You can sign up through Sunday, June 30, and after that, we’ll select 10 contestants! Those 10 new Haakster stars will then start their first crochet challenge on Monday, July 22. The first episode of “The Haakster of the Netherlands” will air on October 4 on our blog and YouTube channel!
Grand Prize!
You’ll be competing for the honorary title of “The Netherlands’ Top Haakster” and for an amazing grand prize. You’ll receive a book contract with Kosmos to publish your own crochet book! Woo-hoo! An added bonus is that you’ll get to enjoy your favorite hobby (crocheting!). That sounds pretty appealing, doesn’t it?
The Netherlands’ Crochet Competition!
During the competition, you’ll receive various crochet challenges, each with its own theme. For each challenge, you’ll come up with an original pattern and turn your design into an actual crochet project. You’ll pull out all the stops to advance to the next round. Unlike last year, the scoring system has changed, and the points you earn will carry over all the way to the finals. In the finals, the crochet jury (our own judges and well-known Haakster stars) and the viewers will decide who the winner is. The “De haakSTER van Nederland” contest is organized by Yarnplaza.com. You’ll do all your crocheting at home and vlog everything yourself.
The series will air weekly starting in October on Yarnplaza's YouTube channel.

In this exciting elimination competition, you’ll be challenged time and time again to crochet a beautiful project; we’ll provide all the yarn, and you’ll vlog your crochet adventure from start to finish. Are you an enthusiastic and creative crochet fanatic who loves to whip up the most beautiful crochet projects and patterns with joy and passion? Do you love to crochet day and night, and do you never shy away from a challenging crochet project? Do you want a chance to win your very own crochet book (how awesome is that!)? Then you’re the Haakster we’re looking for!

It doesn’t matter to us whether you’re a well-known or unknown Haakster, male or female, young or old, Dutch or Belgian. What matters most to us is that you love crocheting and are excited for a crocheting adventure full of fun, educational, and challenging projects. You must be at least 18 years old to register.

Last season, we regularly received the following questions. We’ve listed them below:

How good do you need to be?
It’s important that you be able to design your own patterns and bring your project to life. You need to be able to make neat stitches and weave in the ends. That’s how good you need to be.

How much time does it take?
Of course, it depends on how quickly you can come up with and work out (crochet) your pattern. But this contest takes time. The time you’re given for each assignment depends on how far you get. At first, we’ll start with one week per assignment. That means the assignments will be small. As the contest progresses, the assignments will get bigger, and you’ll be given more time to complete them.

What kind of challenges are there?
We’re, of course, looking for the 2019 Haakster of the Netherlands, who—naturally—needs to be a jack-of-all-trades. The challenges will therefore vary widely—from techniques to Amigurumi, from home decor to baby items.

I'm from Belgium—can I participate too?
You can participate if you're from Belgium, provided you speak Dutch or Flemish.

When is the registration deadline?
Registration closes on Sunday, June 30, at 11:59 p.m.

Do you need to be able to write a pattern?
It’s important that you can design, write out, and digitally develop a pattern on your own. And, if necessary, create a digital piece count chart to go with it. -
Can I sign someone up or nominate them?
You can't just sign someone up or nominate them—they have to give their consent to participate. We get a lot of requests, and it's important that they have time for it. Of course, you can still suggest someone to participate!
