Crocheting a Scarf - Let's Try Tunisian Crochet!

Tunisian-Crocheted Scarf - Since scarves are great in both summer and winter, and every outfit deserves a matching piece, we just can’t get enough of them. This design by Saskia is yet another gem that we’re excited to add to our collection. Read on for the free pattern and get crocheting!

We got into Tunisian crochet and made this cool scarf. It’s a design that’s sure to put a smile on your face! The scarf is—what else?—beautifully colorful and finished with a sparkling border made from Durable Glam.

The body of the scarf is made from Yarn and Colors Charming, a cotton-acrylic yarn with a washed-out look. This supple yarn is ideal for making scarves, but you can also use it for clothing, baby items, or Amigurumi. Saskia finishes the scarf with a border and cheerful fringe made from ByClaire Sparkle; this completes the design!

Crochet Pattern for a Tunisian Scarf:

Things to keep in mind when crocheting the Scarf:
- The pattern consists of a 2-row repeat.
- Change colors when you have 1 loop left on the needle. Pick up the new color and pull the loop tight.
- For each ball of yarn, crochet 120 rows (60 times rows 2 and 3), or until you run out of yarn.

Crochet a Tunisian scarf

Using Green Ice yarn and a Tunisian Crochet Hook, chain 32 chain stitches.

Row 1: Insert your Crochet Hook through the first chain stitch from the Crochet Hook and make a yarn over. Pull the yarn through the stitch and leave the loop on your Crochet Hook. * Insert the Crochet Hook through the next chain stitch, make a yarn over, pull the yarn over through the stitch, and leave the loop on the Crochet Hook *. Repeat from * until the end of the row.
Row 2: Chain 1 and pull through one loop on your Crochet Hook. *Chain 1 and pull through the first two loops on your Crochet Hook*. Repeat from * until you have 1 loop left on your Crochet Hook.
Row 3: Insert your hook straight through your work, between the two vertical loops, pick up the yarn, and leave the loop on the Crochet Hook. Do this for all stitches. Pick up the last two loops together to create a neat edge.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you have crocheted 120 rows, or until you run out of yarn.
Join with color 3 (Cream) and repeat rows 2 and 3 a total of 3 times.

Rand:

Using Durable Glam and a 6mm Crochet Hook, attach the yarn to the long side of the scarf in any stitch. Chain 1, then work 1 single crochet in each stitch until you reach the end of the long side.

When you reach the short side: *chain 16, work back with a slip stitch in each chain stitch, and single crochet 1 between the “V”s of the scarf. Repeat from *. This creates a fringe at each “V.” On the other long side, single crochet 1 in each stitch, and on the other short side, make fringes again.

Have fun!
