Start by crocheting a basic granny square.
Join 4 chain stitches with 1 slip stitch to form a ring.
Round 1: 2 chain stitches, 2 double crochets, 2 chain stitches, *3 double crochets, 2 chain stitches in the ring; repeat from * 2 times. Close the round with 1 slip stitch. Make another slip stitch in the next chain arch.
Round 2: 2 chain stitches, 2 double crochets, 2 chain stitches, 3 double crochets in the chain arch, 1 chain stitch. *3 double crochets, 2 chain stitches, 3 double crochets in the next chain arch, 1 chain stitch. Repeat from * 2 times. Close the round with 1 slip stitch. Slip stitch to the next chain arch.
Round 3: 2 chain stitches, 2 double crochets, 2 chain stitches, 3 double crochets in the chain arch, 1 chain stitch. 3 double crochets in the next space, 1 chain stitch. *3 double crochets, 2 chain stitches, 3 double crochets in the next chain arch, 1 chain stitch. 3 double crochets in the next space, 1 chain stitch. Repeat from * 2 times. Close the round with 1 slip stitch. Slip stitch to the next chain stitch arch.
Bottom of the slipper
Crochet 1 single crochet in the corner where you finished, then 1 single crochet in each stitch of the granny square, ending with 1 single crochet in the first corner of the granny square (= 13 single crochets). Crochet 7-8-9 rows back and forth in single crochet (turn each row with 1 chain stitch). Cut the yarn and single crochet it off. Repeat this on the other side of the granny square. Sew these pieces together.
Toe
Work 1 single crochet in each stitch along one side of the granny square in the same way as on the bottom edge (= 13 single crochets). Then crochet 15-17-19 single crochets along the bottom edge of the foot = 28-30-32 single crochets total. Crochet in the round for 4-5-6 rounds. Start each round with 1 chain stitch and end each round with a slip stitch in the first chain stitch. Now crochet 5 rounds, decreasing 5 stitches evenly across each round = 3-5-7 single crochets. Cut the yarn, thread it through the stitches along the opening, pull the yarn tight, and fasten off.
Heel
Crochet 1 single crochet in each of the outer 2 double crochets along the last edge of the granny square and 1 single crochet in the 2-chain space at the corner; then crochet 16-18-20 single crochets along the bottom of the foot; then crochet 1 single crochet in the 2-chain space at the corner and 1 single crochet in each of the first 2 double crochets = 22-24-26 single crochets. Crochet single crochets back and forth, increase at the same time on the first round by working 1 single crochet at the end of the round by crocheting 2 single crochets into the last stitch. Repeat this increase at the end of every round a total of 4 times (2 times on each side) = 26-28-30 single crochets. Continue with single crochet and work 5-7-9 more rounds without increasing. On the next round, work 10-11-12 single crochets, turn. Work 4-5-6 half double crochets and 6 single crochets, turn. Now work one more round of single crochet. Repeat this 3-row section on the other side of your heel as well, so that you have 6 stitches remaining in the center. Fasten off. Sew the center back seam of the heel closed; finally, sew the opening of your heel closed. Finish your slipper by crocheting a border of single crochets along the opening.
