Crocheting Spiders - Screaming witches, cute little ghosts, and sneaky spiders; Halloween is a spookily fun celebration! Of course, this festive atmosphere calls for spooktacular items, which is why we’re crocheting this soft little scary spider. It’s a fun way to give your little monsters a scare...
This spider isn't called a "scare spider" for nothing—it really lives up to its name! Put your finger through the loop in the string, hide the spider in your hand, and fling it into the air at an unexpected moment. We've tested them, and it works! Surprise your little ones with this terrifyingly cute spider and have some spooky fun together this Halloween.
Materials:
- Yarn and Colors Must-have colors Titanium (125), Larimar (062), Black (100), Papaya (017), Pepper (032)
- 2 mm Crochet Hook
- Stuffing
- Prym Stitch Markers
- 2 safety eyelets, 6 mm
Stitches used:
hv = slip stitch
v = single crochet
l = chain stitch
The number of stitches is indicated in parentheses () at the end of each row.
Tip: * To keep track of the beginning of the row, it’s helpful to use a Stitch Marker. Hook it onto the first single crochet of each row and carry it up with you every row.

Due to its size, the crocheted spider is not suitable for children younger than 3 years!
The little spiders in the example are crocheted using the colors Titanium and Papaya. The dots on their backs are made with Black or Pepper. The spiderweb thread is crocheted with Larimar. You crochet the little spider’s legs directly onto its body!
Crochet Pattern for a spider:
Body:
Round 1: Make a magic ring with 6 sc, or do it this way: Crochet 2 chains, then crochet 6 sc in the first chain, and slip stitch into the first sc (6 sc).
Round 2: Crochet 2 single crochets in each single crochet (12).
Round 3: Crochet 2 single crochets in every 2nd single crochet (18).
Round 4: Chain 1, *2 single crochets in the next single crochet, chain 2*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the round, but finish with 1 single crochet (24).
Round 5: Crochet 24 (24).
Round 6: Crochet 2 sc in every 4th sc (30).
7th round: The number of stitches in this round remains the same, but in this round you’ll make the starting loops for the spiderweb thread and crochet the legs.
Now crochet the first 2 sc in the back loops so that 2 single loops form on the outside of your work. Now crochet 2 x 1 sc. *Now crochet 1 sl st in the next sc in the front loop so that a single loop forms on the inside of your work. Now crochet 10 chains, then crochet 9 single crochet stitches back along the chain. Attach the leg to the single crochet where you started the chain with 1 single crochet. Crochet 1 single crochet in the next single crochet *. Repeat from * to * three more times. Crochet 9 single crochets. Now repeat from * to * four more times, then finish the round with 1 single crochet. (30).
Row 8: Crochet 30. As you do this, also work into the single loops under the legs from the previous row (30).
Round 9: Make 6 decreases. Crochet every 4th and 5th st together (24).
Round 10: Make 6 decreases. Crochet every 3rd and 4th st together (18).
Round 11: Make 6 decreases. Crochet every 2nd and 3rd st together (12).
Fill the bodice with a little Stuffing.
Round 12: Make 6 decreases. Crochet the stitches together 2 at a time (6). Pull your ending thread through the last six stitches to close the hole.
Head:
Round 1: Make a magic ring of 6 sc, or do it this way: Crochet 2 chains, then crochet 6 sc in the first chain, and slip stitch in the first sc (6 sc).
Round 2: Crochet 2 sc in each sc (12).
Round 3: Crochet 2 sc in every 4th sc (15).
Rows 4 through 6: Crochet 15 single crochets in each row (15). Fasten off. Leave a long tail attached to your work for finishing.
Attach the safety eyes between rows 1 and 2 using single crochet.
Fill the head with a small amount of stuffing. Attach the head to the front of the body (the widest part between the legs) by single crocheting it in place with small stitches all around.
Now cut a loose strand of yarn in the same color as the body. Tie a button at the end of one of the strands. Now stitch the yarn between two rows through the head toward the top of the head, and stitch it through a single crochet stitch to the outside. Pull it tight. You can pull the button inward between the rows, but it should now hang behind the single crochets on top of the head. Repeat this four more times. Cut the threads close to the head and rub it with your fingers so it becomes a little fluffy.
Spiderweb strand:
Attach a new strand of Larimar from the top into one of the outer loops of row 7. Now crochet a chain of 101. Work back along the chain. Crochet 20 sl sts. Form a ring by crocheting 2 sl sts into the first two sl sts. Continue crocheting 80 sl sts until you reach the body, then single crochet 1 time in the other outer loop of row 7. Weave in the ends.
Embroider Pepper or Black speckles on top of the spider's body.
