What is the Diamond Stitch?
The Diamond Stitch is actually a pattern, not a stitch. You repeat 4 rounds over and over to crochet the Diamond Stitch as a pattern. As you crochet these 4 rounds, diamond shapes form. These diamonds appear on the crochet piece and are created using double relief double crochets. A double relief double crochet is a regular double crochet that you crochet as usual, but instead of inserting the hook into the stitch from the previous round, you insert it into a stitch two rounds below.
What can you crochet with the Diamond Stitch?
The Diamond Stitch looks best when worked in a single color, as this allows you to really see the pattern’s effects. Because the stitch has a bit of texture, it’s perfect for Cushions. It’s also fun to make a case for your Crochet Hooks using this stitch—the diamonds on top of your work sit loosely, making it easy to insert stitches!
The Diamond Stitch has been used on this beautiful Safari Cushion, among other things, and also in the Christmas Dream Blanket! Summer may be just around the corner, but you can’t start a beautiful Christmas project early enough, right?

Row 2: Single crochets + 1 chain stitch.
Row 3: Crochet 3 single crochets; now we're going to make the second part of the diamond.
*Crochet 1 double relief double crochet around the double relief double crochet from the previous round. Work this double relief double crochet until you have 2 loops left on the Crochet Hook; crochet the next double relief double crochet around the next double relief double crochets from the previous round, and pull the yarn through the last 3 loops. Skip 1 stitch, then crochet 3 single crochets.*
Repeat *this* until the end of the row, ending with 3 single crochets.
