Elisabeth Stitch
Start with a chain of a number of chain stitches that is divisible by 2, plus 1 chain stitch.
Row 1: Start in the 2nd chain stitch from your Crochet Hook.
*Insert the hook into the stitch, make a yarn over, and pull the yarn through the stitch (2 loops on the hook); make a yarn over, insert the hook into the same stitch, make a yarn over, and pull the yarn through the stitch (4 loops on the hook); make a yarn over and pull it through all 4 loops on the hook. Finish the stitches with 1 chain stitch.
Skip 1 chain stitch* and repeat *to* until the end of the row. Chain 1 more.
Row 2: Crochet into the left side of the first Elisabeth stitch (if you pull the stitch open slightly, a gap will form there), and crochet another Elisabeth stitch into it. Crochet the next stitch into the left side of the second Elisabeth stitch. Continue this pattern until the end of the row.
Repeat Row 2 until you have reached the desired height.
