Top Crochet Projects for a Girl - Now that the first warm rays of sunshine are behind us, we can start getting ready for summer. And what could be more fun than making your own summer clothes? This adorable girl’s top is beautifully finished with a decorative trim and is perfect for wearing on warm days. It would look great on any little girl, right? Read on for the free pattern and get started—maybe for your daughter, granddaughter, niece, or the girl next door!

Designing your own clothes is a lot of fun, but it can also be quite a challenge at times. Luckily, Phildar gives us a helping hand with this adorable pattern. The top is made from Phil Coton 3, making it breathable and nice and light. Plus, Phil Coton 3 comes in a wide range of colors, so you can make it in any color you want. Choose a bold, bright color or a soft pastel shade and get started!

We crocheted the top using color 42, Piscine.

Yarn quantities:
A) 4 years old:
3 balls, 6 years old: 4 balls, 8–10 years old: 5 balls, D) 12 years old: 6 balls, and 14 years old: 7 balls.

Crochet Pattern for a top:

Back:
Chain A) 71, B) 81, C) 91, D) 101, E) 111 chain stitches using a size 3 Crochet Hook, then continue working in Fantasy Stitch No. 1.

After this, you will have A) 7, B) 8, C) 9, D) 10, E) 11 stitches.

When the total height reaches 7.5 cm (8 rounds), work 1 round of single crochet, making 1 decrease (i.e., 1 single crochet, decreasing in one of the arches).

After this, you will have A) 70, B) 80, C) 90, D) 100, E) 110 stitches.

When the total height reaches 8 cm (9 rows), continue using a size 2.5 Crochet Hook in Fantasy Stitch No. 2.

Decrease on both sides: (i.e., 2 double crochets worked together)
A) Every 4th row: 4 x 1 stitch, B) Every 4th row: 5 x 1 stitch, C) Every 4th row: 6 x 1 stitch, D) Every 6th row: 3 x 1 stitch and every 4th row: 2 x 1 stitch, E) Every 6th row: 2 x 1 stitch and every 4th row: 4 x 1 stitch.

After this, you will have A) 62, B) 70, C) 78, D) 90, E) 98 stitches.

At A) 27 cm (30 rows), B) 29 cm (32 rows), C) 32.5 cm (36 rows), D) 36 cm (40 rows), E) 38 cm (42 rows) total height, for the armholes, decrease one stitch on each side of every row:
A) 1 x 5 stitches, 2 x 3 stitches, 3 x 2 stitches, and 1 x 1 stitch.
B) 1 x 5 stitches, 1 x 4 stitches, 2 x 3 stitches, and 5 x 1 stitch.
C) 1 x 5 stitches, 1 x 4 stitches, 2 x 3 stitches, and 6 x 1 stitch.

Front:
Crochet the same as the back until the armholes. At A) 27 cm (30 rows), B) 29 cm (32 rows), C) 32.5 cm (36 rows), D) 36 cm (40 rows), E) 38 cm (42 rows) total height, for the armholes, decrease on each side of every row:
A) 1 x 5 stitches, 2 x 3 stitches, 3 x 2 stitches, and 1 x 1 stitch.

Meanwhile: at A) 31 cm (35 rows), B) 35 cm (39 rows), C) 40 cm (44 rows), D) 46 cm (51 rows), E) 50 cm (55 rows) total height for the neck, the center section: A) 18, B) 20, C) 26, D) 34, E) 38 stitches; continue crocheting each section separately and decrease 1 row higher on the neck side: A) 1 x 1 stitch, B) 1 x 2 stitches, C) 1 x 2 stitches, D) 1 x 3 stitches, E) 1 x 4 stitches.

When the total height reaches A) 33 cm (37 rows), B) 37 cm (41 rows), C) 42 cm (46 rows), D) 48 cm (53 rows), or E) 52 cm (57 rows), bind off the remaining 3 stitches. Finish the other side of the neck in the same way.

Galon:
Chain A) 111, B) 121, C) 131, D) 151, or E) 161 chain stitches using a size 2.5 Crochet Hook, work 3 rounds in the Galon Fantasy Stitch, and then fasten off.


Explanation of the Galon counting pattern:

Row 1: 3 chain stitches (1st double crochet), then all double crochets.
Row 2: 1 slip stitch in the first 5 stitches, crochet into the back loop of each stitch,
* On the next stitch, crochet 1 flower: 1 single crochet, # 4 chain stitches, 1 triple double crochet, 4 chain stitches, and 1 slip stitch#; repeat #to# 2 more times. Then work 1 slip stitch in each of the next 9 stitches*. Repeat from * to * and finish the round with 1 flower and 1 slip stitch in each of the next 5 stitches. Cut the yarn.
Row 3: Join the yarn to the 1st slip stitch of the 2nd row, work 1 single crochet in the 1st slip stitch, *4 chain stitches, then in the stitch at the end of the 1st leaf: 1 slip stitch, then #4 chain stitches, 2 triple double crochets worked together (# 3 yarn overs, insert the Crochet Hook into the end of the next leaf, pull through 1 loop, 1 yarn over, pull the yarn through the 2 loops, 1 yarn over, pull the yarn through the 2 loops, 1 #to# 2 times, 1 yarn over, and pull the yarn through the last 3 loops), 1 slip stitch at the end of the next leaf#. Repeat from #to# 2 times. Then chain 4, skip 4 slip stitches from the 2nd round, and crochet a single crochet into the next stitch. Chain 4, 1 triple double crochet, chain 4, and 1 single crochet *. Repeat from *to* along the Galon.

Finish:
Close the seams. Sew the braid into the neckline of the back and front pieces, leaving enough braid free for the shoulders. Make a cord from 3 strands of thread folded in half, with a finished length of A) 119, B) 125, C) 132, D) 143, E) 151 cm. Thread it through the openwork.
