Interview with Chloë

Of course, we’d love to introduce you to the designer behind this cheerful cardigan. Read or watch the interview below for a glimpse into Chloë’s world of crochet.

Hey, I'm Chloë. Most people will know me from the previous season of Haakster (2020), where I came in third. Or from my Instagram account @_chloe.made, where I post all my creations.

My passion for crocheting actually began when my mother was crocheting. She was crocheting an Amigurumi, and in that same crochet book there was something I wanted to make, too. So she tried to explain how to crochet to me, even though I’m left-handed. That’s how I managed to crochet my first little doll. After that, I crocheted another project, and then another, and another… I’ve actually never stopped since.

I would describe my style as trendy and modern. I also really like geometric shapes and clean designs.

I find it really hard to choose between these three. Since I’ve been participating in Haakster, I actually enjoy crocheting just about everything. But usually, I’m working on a home decor project and an Amigurumi at the same time, and I switch back and forth between them. And every now and then, I’ll throw in a piece of clothing as well.

It might sound cliché, but I’m most proud of this cardigan. Designing and crocheting a garment is, if you ask me, “next level.” Because getting the measurements just right is, of course, a challenge. I found that pretty difficult, which is why I’m so proud that I managed to pull it off.

That might just be my mom. We often go for walks in nature, and all kinds of ideas just pop into my head. I sometimes look on Pinterest, too, but I prefer to come up with what I’d like to do and then build on that.

Um… I think I’d rather bring my crochet project with me, haha. No, I like going out and visiting friends and family. But I also really enjoy sitting on the couch with friends or my mom, crocheting and chatting.

I think my mom. But actually, the rest of my family and friends, too. I have a lot of friends who ask if I’d like to crochet something for them. And my family also thinks it’s great that I often give crocheted items as gifts. So everyone likes what I do, and that makes me very happy.

I love crocheting on the couch while watching one of my favorite TV shows—*Friends*, for example. I’ve watched it so many times that I don’t need to see everything, but I can still hear the dialogue. When I’m designing something like this cardigan, I prefer to crochet at the table so I can really focus on what I’m doing.

I think I'm somewhere in between. Sometimes I crochet really tightly, like when I'm making an Amigurumi. For fashion projects, I crochet a little more loosely with chain stitches.

My craft stash at home is growing quite a bit. I often buy yarn for a new project, but then end up working on something else instead. My stash consists mainly of Cotton. Other than that, it’s not too bad, actually. I also have a lot of Crochet Hooks, but I always end up using the same ones. My favorites are in a little pouch, and I take them with me everywhere I go.

One thing I can never do without is something to drink, like tea or coffee. I also really like to drink milk. Or a tasty cookie or piece of candy. Above all, I think it’s important to be able to sit comfortably. I get cold easily, so I like to sit under a crocheted blanket.

For Yarnplaza, I designed a cardigan made entirely of Granny Squares. I designed this Granny Square pattern myself, too. I really wanted to create a granny cardigan with a trendy, new twist. I think I pulled it off!

For the entire cardigan, I used a single Granny Square in different colors. Softer colors are combined with bolder ones. There are color combinations that recur throughout, which keeps the cardigan looking calm despite the many colors. I also think the great thing about a Granny Square is that it’s an easy project to take with you.

I'm super excited about my cardigan and can't wait for more crochet enthusiasts to give it a try. Maybe you'll make the cardigan in a single color scheme. I think that would look nice, too, if you prefer something a little more subdued. Or do what I did and show off your eye-catching creation.
