Crocheting Baby Cardigans - Summer days call for summer clothes! We’ve thought of the little ones, too, which is why we’re crocheting these summery baby cardigans. Short sleeves, cheerful colors, pom-poms, and wonderfully soft fabric. Read on for this sunny free pattern.
The sun is finally shining, and even on warm days, the little ones should, of course, look their best. As a variation on our previously crocheted baby cardigan, we’re making a light and airy version in cheerful colors. The combination of Rico Creative Cotton Aran and Cotton Print adds a fun twist. Crochet this baby cardigan in different colors and make sure your little one is all set for summer!

Rows 13 through 36: 84 double crochets. Fasten off.
Straight Sleeves (Baby Cardigan 1):
Crochet with size 4 crochet hook
Attach a thread to the armhole.
Round 1: 26, 28, 30 half double crochets.
Rows 2 through 5: 26, 28, 30 half double crochets.
Row 6: 26, 28, 30 sts using a size 3 Crochet Hook and color 37
Sleeves with a ruffled edge (baby cardigan 2):
Crochet with a size 4 crochet hook
Attach a new thread to the shoulder of the sleeve.
Round 1: 7 (8, 8) sc, 7 (7, 9) hdc, and 7 (8, 8) sc (21, 23, 25 stitches) and 1 chain stitch.
Row 2: Crochet the first 2 sc together. Crochet 6 (7, 7) sc, 5 (6, 8) hdc, 6 (7, 7) sc, and crochet the last two sc together. Fasten off.
Round 3: Now attach a new strand of red yarn at the underarm point and, working along the side of the first 2 rounds, crochet 1 stitch to join to the first stitch. Crochet *5 sc in the first sc, skip 1 stitch, and crochet 1 sl st in the next sc*. Repeat from *to*, until the end of the round. Crochet 1 sc toward the bottom point of the underarm. You have crocheted a total of 7 (7, 8) arcs. Fasten off. Neatly weave in all ends.
Finishing:
Using a size 3 crochet hook, crochet a border of single crochets around the front, back, and neckline. Crochet a 35-chain cord on both sides of the front to close the Cardigan, and finally, make two pom-poms to attach to the ends of the cords (only for Baby Cardigan 1).

Playing with Color
You can play around with colors in any project, and this baby cardigan is no exception! For example, make a pink cardigan for a girl or a blue one for a boy. Of course, you can also just choose your favorite colors and make a nice, colorful cardigan!
