Crochet a basket of granny squares
Posted on 18-8-2015 by api_more2make.nl

Crochet a basket - Look how cute! A knitted basket that is perfectly suitable for stashing your balls of wool. The bottom of Phil Papier is very sturdy and the granny squares give the finishing touch! Read on for the pattern.

For this project we use Phil Papier and Cabotine by Phildar. Phil Papier is made of 100% paper fibers and very suitable for home deco. To create a soft look we have combined Phil Papier with the mixed yarn Cabotine. Easy to work with and Cabotine has a beautiful wide colour range. Do you dare to try this combination?

What do you need?

- 1 ball Phildar Phil Papier colour 02
- 1 ball Phildar Cabotine colour 07, 17 and 19

Pattern for the granny square:?
The grannies are worked with crochet hook 2.5mm. Use Cabotine colour 17, ch 5 and close the ring with a sl st.

Round 1: ch 3, dc 2 in the ring, ch 2, *dc 3 in the ring, ch2*. Repeat ** 2x. End with a sl st, change colour to Cabotine colour 07.
Round 2: Start in a ch 2 opening: [ch 3, dc 2, ch 2, dc 3] in the ch 2 opening, ch 1, *[dc 3, ch 2, dc 3] in the next ch 2 opening, ch 1*. Repeat ** 2x. End with a sl st, change colour to Cabotine colour 19.
Round 3: Start in a ch 2 opening: [ch 3, dc 2, ch 2, dc 3] in the ch 2 opening, ch 1, dc 3 in the ch 1 opening, ch 1, *[dc 3, ch 2, dc 3] in the ch 2 opening, ch 1, dc 3 in the ch 1 opening, ch 1.* Repeat ** 2x. Cut the yarn and pull through the loop.
Make 12 granny squares.

Sew the squares together with whip stitches in Cabotine colour 19.

Whip stitch
Put two granny squares together with the right sides up, pick up one loop of each granny and use whip stitches to sew together the sides of the granny. Do not pull the yarn, to get a nice even stitch.

Close the 12 granny squares to a ring.

We are now attaching the ring of granny squares to the base. Use slip stitches on the right side of the basket, using crochet hook 3mm and colour 19. Pick up every stitch, apart from the corners of the grannies; here, you crochet the corner stitches of 2 grannies together with 1 st from the base.

Along the top, work 2 rounds of sc’s with crochet hook 3mm and colour 19. Again, crochet the corner stitches of 2 grannies together as 1 sc.

Edging
Use a crochet hook 2.5mm and colour 19.

Round 1: sc 144. This round is worked along the inside of the basket, working only in the front loop, seen from the inside.
Rounds 2-5: sc 144. Continue along the inside of the basket.
Round 6: Fold the edging out and with sc's attach to the back loops from round 1. Cut the yarn and pull through the loop.

Vary with colour
We have chosen to make the basket of a blue base with pink and beige. Of course there are balls enough to make plenty of different combinations. For example, think about Phil Papier 3 'Groseille' and make a colourful combination with the colours 17, 7 and 18 of Cabotine
